Toyota Sequoia Canada
The Toyota Sequoia is the only full size SUV Toyota carries in Canada it's built on the same platform as the Toyota Tundra pick-up truck and is slightly larger than the mid-size Toyota 4Runner. The Sequoia is assembled at Toyota's Manufacturing plant in Princeton, Indiana since 2001. The Sequoia is also larger than the Toyota Land Cruiser, the Land Cruiser was replaced by the Lexus LX in Canada, the Sequoia is available in 2WD or 4WD, while the Land Cruiser is only available with all time 4x4. The Sequoia is manufactured exclusively for Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Toyota Sequoia 2001-2007
The first Sequoia was unveiled at several Auto Shows in 1999, with full production in 2000 and arrived at Canadian Toyota dealers with the 2001 Sequoia model, the engine and several other components are shared with the Tundra except for the rear suspension. In its first year the Toyota Sequoia was nominated for North America's Truck of the Year in 2001; the 4Runner and Sequoia SUV meet their equals with the Ford Explorer and Ford Expedition.
The Toyota Sequoia is equipped with a rugged V8 4.7L engine with 240HP certified as a ULEV (Ultra Low Emission Vehicle), in 2005 it received an upgraded V8 4.7L engine with VVT-i technology increasing its power to 282HP and improving fuel economy. The Sequoia had standard Vehicle Stability Control and optional 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive.
Toyota Sequoia 2008-present
The second generation of the Toyota Sequoia made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2007, it was built on the newer Tundra platform and shares the same dashboard as the Tundra pick-up truck but with modifications to the rear independent suspension. While the new Sequoia was considerable heavier than previous models it was now available with an optional V8 5.7L engine with 381HP, the base model continued to use the ULEV certified V8 4.7L engine which it shares with the Toyota 4Runner and Lexus LX.
The dashboard was fully redesigned with various new optional features including touch screen navigation with DVD player, back-up camera, upgraded JLB sound system and rear DVD entertainment package. In Canada the Sequoia Limited Technology Package includes a fully upgraded entertainment system with 9 inch DVD player, wireless headphones and XM satellite radio. Dynamic laser cruise control (autonomous cruise control system) was also included in some models which is a cruise control feature that monitors distance between other vehicles. The 8 passenger seating arrangements provides full comfort and plenty of room for a fully loaded SUV.
The 2012 Toyota Sequoia in Canada is available in three trim model; Sequoia SR5 with the V8 4.6L engine and 6-speed automatic transmission; Sequoia Limited, including V8 5.7L engine and premium JLB audio system with 18 speakers and the fully loaded Toyota Sequoia Platinum equipped with the V8 5.7L engine, 20 inch wheels and adaptive front and rear suspension. They all share part time 4WD with vehicle stability control (VSC), Active Traction Control, 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission (Super ECT) and anti-lock ABS brakes with brake assist and electronic brake force distribution (EBD).
