Toyota Yaris Canada
The Toyota Yaris was launched in 1999 in Japan and arrived in Canada as a 2001 model, it was sold as Toyota Echo and was available as a 3 or 4 door hatchback and the Toyota Echo sedan. The Toyota Echo was voted the European Car of the Year and Semperit Irish Car of the Year in 2000
The first Toyota Yaris to arrive in Canada was the Yaris hatchback 3-door it became so popular for its fuel efficiency and practicality, in 2004 a 5-door Yaris hatchback was launched following the same design as the European version, including a larger front and rear bumper to meet Canadian safety standards.
Toyota Echo 1999-2005
The first generation Toyota Yaris in Canada (aka Toyota Echo) was available with a 1.3L engine and 86HP, built on an FF-platform with front wheel drive and a uniquely designed center mounted dashboard. Which incorporated the speedometer and other standard digital instruments in the center of the dashboard facing the pilot. This unique style made it very popular as a small compact, inexpensive car and more fuel efficient than any other vehicle available in Canada at the time. In Europe it was also available with a 1.4L turbo diesel engine, while in Australia there was a limited edition with a VVT-i 1.5L turbo charged engine with 150HP.
Toyota Yaris 2005-2011
The second generation arrived to dealers with the original Yaris name plate and popular 3-door and 5-door hatchback, in 2007 the Toyota Yaris sedan made its debut in Canada as an inexpensive alternative to the Toyota Corolla with a better price tag, improved fuel economy and similar safety features. The new Yaris comes with a larger VVT-i 1.5L, 16-valve, DOHC engine with 106HP, featuring Electronic Throttle Control System with Intelligence and Sequential Multiport Electronic Fuel Injection and an impressive fuel efficiency of 5.9 L/100 km (48 mpg) highway miles and 6.9 L/100 km (41 mpg) city miles. The 2008 Toyota Yaris in Canada includes anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), while available with a standard five-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic. The Yaris also received a full upgrade of airbags, other safety features and an all-weather guard package for the Canadian market.
