Dilawri Group buys 4 Vancouver-area Mercedes-Benz stores

A single buyer has purchased four Vancouver-area dealerships owned by Mercedes-Benz Canada for an undisclosed price.

A news release says that, effective immediately, Dilawri Group of Companies will take ownership of the dealerships along with a body shop and service centre which previously formed Mercedes-Benz Canada’s Vancouver Retail Group.

Canada’s largest automotive group, Dilawri already owns Mercedes-Benz franchises in Langley, B.C. and Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que.

Added to its portfolio as part of the new deal are a store and body shp in North Vancouver; a store and service centre in Richmond; and Boundary Road and Mercedes-Benz Vancouver.

When the intention to sell was announced in July, Mercedes-Benz Canada CEO Brian Fulton said the four dealerships accounted for 15 per cent of the company’s total sales volume.

The selloff was directed by the board of Daimler, Mercedes-Benz Canada’s parent company, as part of a global strategy of selling off corporate stores in Canada, Australia, Britain, Belgium and Germany.

“For us here in Canada was not something we were looking to do,” said Fulton. “It was something clearly not on our radar.”

He said the search for new ownership involved a review of proposals from leading Mercedes-Benz dealers across the globe.

“Our priority was to find a buyer who would maintain the same high standards of sales and service that our customers have come to expect from thee well-established Vancouver locations. After the review, Dilawri Group of Companies emerged as our retailer of choice.”

“We are honoured and thrilled to expand our partnership with Mercedes-Benz through the addition of these high-profile locations,” said Ajay Dilawri, who shares the title of principal director with his brothers Tony and Kap.

Neither he nor Lawson disclosed a purchase price or commented on whether the sale included the land occupied by the dealerships.

The Dilawri group employs more than 4,000 people at 72 franchised dealerships representing 30 automotive brands in Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C.
