TOKYO — Kia is turning up the juice with the new EV6 all-electric crossover, offering a range of drivetrains that begins with an eco-friendly, long-range version and tops out with a sporty all-wheel-drive GT variant packing two motors and a blistering 0-100 km/h time of 3.5 seconds.

The GT model is expected to reach a top speed of 260 km/h.

Kia Corp. unveiled the low-slung, futuristic flagship EV6 on Tuesday, saying it would be optioned with two batteries, a standard-range 58 kWh pack and a long-range 77.4 kWh pack.

In both the standard and GT-line trim levels, either battery can be mated to a one-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup or to a two-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration.

The range-capping GT model, however, comes in just one combination: Large battery, all-wheel drive. Its motors also deliver a combined 430 kilowatts. That’s substantially more than the 239 kilowatts produced by the two motors in the standard large-battery, all-wheel-drive version.

The power-pinching version, the big battery optioned with two-wheel drive, can go 316 miles on a single charge. Kia didn’t offer a range for the GT model.

Kia’s figure is drawn from the European standard, the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure, which is considered more generous than U.S. rules set by the EPA.

The GT model will also get Limited Slip Differential software for dynamic handling.

“The GT version of EV6 demonstrates our technological leadership through its combination of outstanding high-speed charging and acceleration performance like a super sports car,” Hyundai Motor Group R&D chief Albert Biermann said in a release. “With our dedicated EV platform, there is no need for compromise between inspiring spaciousness and performance.”
